By:

Here is a final close up shot of my apartment building model and then each layer (three basements, a ground floor, 7 apartment levels and then a roof) separated and rendered out, and then a shot of all the exterior decals. Hopefully I will also have some shots of it with all its planter boxes filled soon to share!

July and August Update

Hi all! Sorry for no updates as of late, we have been working on a portfolio piece that has had me majorly under the pump, but my part is mostly over now so I can finally share what I have been working on for the past two months!
First off I have been practicing with Modo's texturing and shaders pipeline a bit more, so I feel a lot more confident with that now which you'll see some examples of soon.
For a portfolio piece we decided to create a short architectural / construction visualization of a current apartment building project in Melbourne. I created 12 levels (three basements / carparks, eight apartment levels, and a roof) including all basic interior (walls, doors etc.) and detailed exteriors all from the actual construction plans (this is why I was so busy!). I completed the model in 18 days (98 hours) and modeled and textured everything in the below screenshots except for the balcony furniture. Below are four simple renders that don't include the basement, but once my team is finished putting the flora in, proper lighting and rendering it I should have some proper renders to show off. Tomorrow I will take some renders of each individual level so I can show off the interiors and some detailed shots.
I finished up on that project last week, so this week I'm onto doing some smaller pipeline tests modelling and texturing one or two story houses that could be used for real estate advertisement purposes. So far I have completed two houses and almost finished a third, and I'll post those renders once my team is finished rendering them hopefully at the end of this week.

Wheatley

A few more hours work today and I've finished with my version of Wheatley from Portal 2. I haven't made it exactly accurate to his in-game design as the aim was to test certain areas of Modo's modelling pipeline. If I have more time soon I would like to remodel this whilst recording my screen like I had originally planned.

Wheatley WIP
By:

on 02:49
This week is mostly renders and I needed a break from my current tutorial, so today I started modelling one of my favorite video game characters, Wheatley form Portal 2. Originally I wanted to film the process of the model, but have been having some issues finding a good screen recorder, so no video for now. Still a few finishing touches to do and I need to texture it, but I'm happy with this for a few hours work. I've been purposely using new modelling techniques on this to help refine and practice my Modo knowledge.

Car WIP

The last few weeks we have been re-imaging our computers and installing all commercial software which we have now bought! It is pretty cool to now be using software we actually own, rather than student software. I've finally gotten back to some work now I can use Modo again, and have been practicing my skills by modelling a car (which I've never done before, and without a tutorial!) among other things such as our pipeline tests and a new client project.
This is a blockout from a few days work so far, I'm hoping to make a few different cars eventually so I should get quicker at it as I go.

House Interior

Here are some screenshots of the house interior for my current pipeline test. For two days work (1 day on exterior and 1 on interior) I'm happy with how they came out. This is my part done for the pipeline but I may add some more items for my portfolio. I've only done basic material masks for these.

Pipeline Tests

Here is some updates from the current pipeline tests my team has been undertaking for the last two weeks. The first Pipeline test (which is now finished) was on creating a short film showing the deconstruction of part of our office ceiling, a render of my modelling is below.
Our second pipeline test is a short film showing off a small three bedroom house, which is only furnished with what would be included in the house (so kitchen and bathroom appliances, counters etc.). I've just finished the exterior modelling (the back will not be shown which is why the backdoor is not completed, it is completed inside however), below is some screenshots of the model and some viewport renders.

Transport Vehicle Modo Tutorial Part 2 (Kitbash)
By:

on 00:04
An update from me on the modelling tutorials! Most of last week I spend doing written work and organizing things for our Pipeline exercises, but I've been continuing the tutorial in my spare time, right now about half way through the second video which is on kitbashing.
This is my first time doing any kitbashing and I'm really enjoying it, it is very relaxing work. I'm looking forward to integrating these into the model and possibly even future personal pieces.
